Off to these little huts!

Off to Silent Valley for the Diwali weekend, located between Kalsa and Kuduremukh at eastern slopes of Western Ghats of Karnataka. It is 4 kms. from Kalsa on Kuduremukh Road, Chikamagalur Dist. Karnataka, India.

The cottages are in the ethnic style taking you back to a village type of an atmosphere where simplicity and harmony reigned supreme. TERI (Tata Environmental Research Institute) has certified the cottages as one of the Energy Efficient Buildings in India.
Cottages here are partially sunk into the ground to benefit from the thermal storage capacity of earth. Walls are of solid mud blocks, pillars are of local waster timber and roof is made of Mangalore tiles.

Mathanki, Silent Valley is just a few kilometers from my parents' coffee estate. I love the place too, though I have never stayed there:) for obvious reasons:)...the Kudremukh area is beautiful, isn't it? I will be going on a trek up the Kudremukh peak this December.
